Common questions we hear
If you’ve landed here at an odd hour because something isn’t right — whether it’s your own drinking, your partner’s drug use, or a call you just got about your son — you’re in the right place.
Redwood Recovery is a private, non-clinical recovery coaching service. We don’t have waiting lists. We don’t do group sessions unless you want them. We work with people one-on-one, in complete confidence.
Common questions we hear
Am I an addict? How do I know if I have a problem?
There’s no single definition, and a label isn’t what matters most right now. What matters is whether your relationship with alcohol or substances is costing you — sleep, relationships, work, your sense of control. If you’re asking the question, it’s worth a conversation. Our coaches don’t diagnose — we listen, and we help you work out what support looks like for you.
I’ve tried to stop before and relapsed. What’s different about coaching?
Relapse is extremely common and doesn’t mean you’ve failed — it means the support structure around you wasn’t strong enough. Recovery coaching provides consistent, one-on-one accountability between the moments when things get hard. Not a weekly group. Not a form to fill in. A real person, available when you need them.
My [son / daughter / partner] won’t ask for help themselves. What can I do?
This is one of the most painful positions to be in. You can’t force someone to want help — but you can build a plan for how your family responds, set boundaries that are sustainable, and have a structured option ready for the moment they say yes. We work with families directly, and we can help you prepare for that conversation.
Is this confidential?
Completely. Redwood Recovery is a private service. We don’t share your information with employers, courts, or health systems. What you tell us stays with us.
Do I need a referral or a GP’s approval?
No. You can contact us directly. There’s no gatekeeping and no referral required.
What if there’s a court matter involved?
We work with clients who are navigating legal proceedings. We can provide structured, documented coaching engagement that demonstrates voluntary commitment to change. We recommend you speak with your solicitor about how this may be relevant to your situation — we’re not a legal or clinical service, but we can work alongside both.
How quickly can we start?
We aim to have an initial conversation within 24–48 hours of you reaching out. In urgent situations, we do our best to move faster.
